Guide: 'Diablo 3' - Crafting and Artisans

Crafting in Diablo 3 is not much different than what we have seen in nearly every other game out there. You collect items (weapons, armor, gems, etc), and combine them into other items.

Pretty simple, right?

Well, the major difference that Diablo 3 brings to the table is found in the "Artisans". These Artisans are the actors that will create the aforementioned objects of greater power. Each Artisan starts as an Apprentice and can only level up with your help.

Be prepared to spend a lot of gold and search for the "Pages". Don't worry too much though, the following guide won't leave you alone.

Crafting Materials

There are different crafting materials in each difficulty level. They go as follows:

Normal Difficulty:
-Subtle Essence (obtained through salvaging magic weapons and armor)
-Fall Tooth (obtained through salvaging rare weapons and armor)

Nightmare Difficulty:
-Shimmering Essence (salvage magic weapons and armor)
-Lizard Eye (salvage rare weapons and armor)

Hell Difficulty:
-Wishful Essence (salvage magic weapons and armor)
-Encrusted Hoof (salvage rare weapons and armor)

Inferno Difficulty:
-Exquisite Essence (salvage magic weapons and armor)
-Iridescent Tear (salvage rare weapons and armor)
Fiery Brimstone (salvage legendary weapons and armor)

Artisan Training:

Artisans are trained through spending gold for the first few levels, then through special Pages or Tomes of Training. You can find these pages by simply killing enemies or by looting chests and what-not. Thing is, they can only be found in the higher difficulty levels (Nightmare, Hell, and Inferno).

Pro Tip: You're going to want to upgrade the Blacksmith as much as possible before you find the Jeweler. The two Artisans are fairly far apart in the game, so leveling the Blacksmith early will help you out a lot during this time.
