Watch_Dogs Day One Sales and Bombs

Watch_Dogs has officially set the record for the highest day one sales of any Ubisoft game. I am sure that in the coming days we will see Ubisoft talk about how this shows what players want and how they are leading games in a new direction, blah blah blah.

Let's not kid ourselves here. Watch_Dogs does not really bring anything new to the table and we should not be so surprised at the fact that it sold so well considering there were very few game related areas of the internet you could go to without seeing some kind of advertisement. Couple this with the fact that there has been little choice of games so far on the new consoles and Ubisoft want to turn this into a new IP, which of course means it will be a yearly release and be driven into the ground. This was bound to happen, it doesn't really seem like the game for me.

The concept itself is something that I can definitely get behind but the execution of it is where the problems lie for me. Pop in, ridiculous spawn distances, AI cars having virtually no weight so on and so on. With that said I will pick it up once it gets a -75% steam sale.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said: "Watch Dogs is an amazing achievement and our teams should be proud that the creativity, innovation and long hours they invested in making this game are paying off. It’s great to see so many players enjoying the game, and it shows that Watch Dogs has cracked the code for developing a new blockbuster IP and a thoroughly new-gen experience"

Plz bro. plz. Let's be real, this game sold because it had a crazy marketing budget and a vaguely enticing premise. It has not cracked any secret code. It is not the saviour of video games. Just calm down bb.

In other news, in a PR stunt to promote the game a black safe and a note that said "check your voicemail" was sent to Australian media outlet ninemsn. After the newsroom tried to open it the safe started beeping, at which point the offices were evacuated and the bomb squad was called in. I really think that there are some things that you should just run by your legal team before you do. Just sometimes.

inb4 jokes about bombs me being from NI.
Something something potatoes.
